New delighting workflow: With photogrammetry techniques, you can use your camera and suitable software such as Photoscan or Remake to create realistic 3D assets. However, textures generated with this method contain a lot of lighting information that should be removed for a flawless CG workflow. There is now a free De-Lighting Tool for Unity. In addition to the photographed texture, you need the following texture maps for the tool in order to generate an albedo map from it:

  • Ambient Occlusion Map
  • Normal Map
  • Bent Normal Map

Other ways to remove shadows from textures have also been included since version six of Substance Designer, for example. However, you must first illuminate the respective object several times with an LED.

You can download the tool for free on GitHub. You also need a version of Unity, which you can also find free of charge here. The tool is compatible with Unity version 5.6 and later. Incidentally, anyone who needs an introduction to photogrammetry workflows with Photoscan can read a free article from us about it here.
