Since Adobe’s acquisition of Substance, many artists have increasingly also been looking at the Quixel toolsets. In this sense, the initially free beta release this year of the PBR authorihing tool “Mixer” and the announcement of a permanent standalone license were good timing. Quixel Bridge received a new update with version 2019.2, which also adds new support for Pixar’s USD format, among other things. You can read more about the format here.

Quixel Bridge new features

  • USD export format, available under Windows, MacOS and Linux.
  • USDZ export format improvements
  • Isotropix Clarisse LiveLink is available for Windows, MacOS and Linux.
  • Maya LiveLink is now also available under Linux.
  • 3D preview shader update for a better implementation of PBR

According to the blog entry, the developers also worked closely with Nvidia to support MDL. OBJ, FBX, USD, MDL, GLTF and USDZ formats are now therefore available in Quixel Bridge.
