Archive notice: This historical article was originally published in January 2020. Dates, statements and links are preserved from the original. The previously Nuke-only tool “FaceBuilder“ from KeenTools is now available as a Blender add-on in open beta. The add-on can be used to create 3D models for faces and heads with clean topology based on photos. These can then be used further – whether for tracking, modelling or simple export to other software. No 3D scanner or photogrammetry rig is required to carry this out. The Facebuilder workflow is based on a few photos with manual alignment of “pins” to fit a base mesh to your photos. You can find a detailed guide here.

To the Download
The tool is currently available free of charge in open beta for Blender 2.80. For successful installation, you need to download the add-on here free of charge. In addition, you need the Core Library, which you can find in the “Preference” tab in the installed add-on and instal automatically. (Edit > Preferences > Add-ons > KeenTools FaceBuilder).
