Archive notice: This historical article was originally published in January 2020. Dates, statements and links are preserved from the original. The previously Nuke-only tool FaceBuilder from KeenTools is now available as a Blender add-on in open beta. The add-on can be used to create 3D models for faces and heads with clean topology based on photos. These can then be used further – whether for tracking, modelling or simple export to other software. No 3D scanner or photogrammetry rig is required to carry this out. The Facebuilder workflow is based on a few photos with manual alignment of “pins” to fit a base mesh to your photos. You can find a detailed guide here.
