Autodesk has released the first update for Maya 2020: alongside a new motion-capture library, it also brings improvements for Bifrost, the timeline, 3D Painting and more.

Maya 2020.1: New motion-capture library

Rokoko’s motion-capture library is now available directly in Maya through a plug-in. The animations can be applied quickly to your own assets by dragging and dropping FBX data. The library has existed since September 2018 (natively in Unity) and contains motion assets created for productions including The Last Jedi, Doctor Strange, Assassin’s Creed and Horizon Zero Dawn. While users receive 50 free mocap files from Eric Jacobus (stuntman in God of War 4), the regular cost is between US$3 and US$6. Further information is available here.

Further new features

  • Bifrost with faster simulations, better graph interactivity and more.
  • 3D Paint High Resolution with support for textures up to 16K.
  • Time Slider update with interactive moving and scaling.
