Ivy Generator Builds 3ds Max Geometry

The free Ivy script for 3ds Max 2018 to 2020 grows branching geometry and leaves around scene objects, with adjustable forces and materials.

Ivy was a free 3ds Max tool derived from Thomas Luft’s open-source ivy generator. Guillermo M. Leal Llaguno implemented the interface in MaxScript and designed the result as ordinary scene geometry, so finished assets could be opened without the generator installed.

Growth controls

The script generated branching vines that wrapped around target geometry and included leaf meshes. Artists could adjust force parameters, Branch Probability, Branch Parents and Ivy Search Size to change how the plant spread across the surface.

Materials and hand-off

Leaves could receive multiple material IDs. Because the output was geometry rather than a live procedural dependency, scenes remained portable after generation, a useful property when assets move to another workstation or department.
