Oasis animators demonstrate
Members of Canada’s first animation workers’ union held a demonstration outside their employer, Oasis Animation in Montreal. As Alex Dudok de Wit reported in Cartoon Brew, the demonstrators sought better working conditions and accused the studio of failing to honour agreements.
The union’s demands included a more transparent process for dismissals, full recognition of seniority and pay that was not tied to performance. The report described Canada’s animation industry as largely non-unionised, while noting that organising efforts had been under way since 2019.

In 2020, Digital Production reported on animation workers at Titmouse Vancouver forming a union. Vanessa Kelly, a communications representative for the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, described that development as a first step towards recognising animation workers as essential members of the industry and giving them a voice.
