In brief: Autodesk announced updates for Maya, 3ds Max, Bifrost and Arnold, concentrating on animation, modelling, rendering and production efficiency.

Maya updates:

  • USD workflows: Bifrost’s visual programming environment gained USD integration, with USD support in the Channel Box.
  • Unreal Live Link for Maya: The plugin streamed Maya animation to Unreal in real time for virtual production and games.
  • Blue Pencil 2D Drawing Tools: Viewport drawing remained separate from the scene and supported motion planning and review annotations.
  • Boolean workflow: An improved Boolean node, stack options and five additional operations reduced setup steps.

Further Maya details were published on Autodesk’s Maya page.

3ds Max updates:

  • glTF 2.0 export and preview: Assets could be exported directly and previewed in the viewport using the target material representation.
  • Retopology Tools 1.2: A preprocessing option in ReForm accelerated large, complex meshes without requiring modifier-based preparation.
  • Working Pivot Tools: New controls positioned and aligned pivots, changed object axes and added working pivots for modelling, animation and rigging.
  • Arnold integration: The release included the current Arnold renderer.

Bifrost updates:

  • Bifrost USD: Maya USD data could enter procedural Bifrost graphs.
  • Aero Solver: Field mapping, scalability and stability were improved.
  • MPM Solver: Stability and MPM Cloth received updates.
  • Colour picker: The tool added controls and colour-management integration.

The Bifrost release notes documented the changes.

Arnold updates:

  • OptiX 7 Denoiser used supported NVIDIA GPUs for denoising.
  • Triplanar shader projected textures from six directions without UV maps.
  • USD improvements simplified instances and expanded Hydra Render Delegate support for environment, background and colour-connected ramp shaders.

Test plug-ins, USD interchange, colour handling and render output on representative scenes before upgrading a production pipeline.
