For those who don’t know the tool: Beauty Box Video is a Digital Anarchy skin retouching plug-in for Premiere Pro, After Effects, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Avid Media Composer and OpenFX hosts, with Beauty Box Photo covering Photoshop and Lightroom.
Prompting the retouch pass
Digital Anarchy has published a prompt guide for using Premiere AI Assistant with Beauty Box in the Premiere Pro 26.5 Beta, plus a new Q&A video for common retouching cases. The guide covers prompts for applying the effect, changing smoothing values, setting light and dark skin-tone colours, reducing smoothing, making skin look more natural and applying the plug-in across several clips.
Beta means beta
Premiere AI Assistant is currently a beta feature for natural-language requests inside Premiere. Its official scope covers project organisation, media preparation and assembly work, including bins, labels, transcripts, markers, stringouts and rough assemblies. The less glamorous part is still the useful part. In the Beauty Box test, the Assistant could not click the Analyze Frame button inside the plug-in. Artists still need to run that analysis manually and check whether changed controls actually changed. Astonishingly, supervision remains part of post-production.
What Beauty Box 6.0 does
Beauty Box Video 6.0 helps with AI Shine Removal and AI-based masks. The current Beauty Box Video price is $199 USD. The product has automatic skin-tone detection, a mask that limits smoothing and shine reduction to skin areas, smoothing controls for wrinkles and blemishes, shine removal, colour correction, preset styles and GPU support via Apple Metal, Nvidia CUDA and OpenCL.
Mask work still matters
The Q&A material says Shine Removal can process multiple people in the same frame by changing “How many faces in video” from one to the number of faces to process. Separate masks are recommended for people with different skin tones or for isolating one person. Beauty Box can also retouch arms, legs and other skin areas. Since the detection algorithm generally looks for a face, body-area work needs manual skin-tone input with the colour tools.
For difficult skin and hair combinations, the documented workaround is to tighten the Hue, Saturation and Value Range sliders while viewing the mask. Similar hair, clothing and skin tones can still confuse masks, because pixels remain pixels even when the UI has learned to say AI.
Use the demo first
The download page uses the same installer for the watermarked demo and full version, with the serial number removing the watermark after purchase. Test the demo, the beta Assistant prompts and any AI-assisted settings on real footage before production use, especially on hair edges, darker wardrobe, shine, hands and multi-face shots.
