At the world’s largest video and broadcast trade show NAB in Las Vegas (April 05-10, 2003), Pinnacle Systems is presenting an improved version of the professional Liquid Purple DV editing system. A significant plus of the new software is software-supported 2D and 3D real-time effects as well as real-time color correction of digitized clips. For the first time, the powerful processors of modern graphics cards (GPUs) are being used to provide the user with additional computing power and speed. Further innovations: The software now supports larger PC screen resolutions (up to 1600×1280) and in doing so maximizes the video inlay up to full DV resolution in order to enable the editor to monitor the image more comfortably. In addition, Liquid Purple has scalable digital audio scrubbing and DVD, VCD and SVCD authoring completely integrated into the timeline.
For the first time, the very powerful processors on modern graphics cards (GPUs) are being used for effects calculation. The user can use the idle processor power on the graphics card; together, CPU and GPU achieve a significant increase in speed. The result: Real-time effects, including 3D and for multiple video layers, at full DV resolution speed up and simplify the editor’s work.
The DVD has now become established as an additional playout format in almost all production areas. Pinnacle has integrated DVD, VCD and SVCD authoring into the timeline in Liquid Purple 5.0. DVD menus and interactive buttons can be edited and inserted directly on the timeline.
With support for the DV, DVCAM and DVCPro25 formats, Pinnacle Systems is positioning Liquid Purple as an editing system for DV productions in small and medium-sized studios as well as broadcasters. This is also shown by the list of innovations:
- Scalable user interface with maximized inlay display
(up to 1600×1280)
-
Inlay video at full DV resolution (at 1600×1280)
-
GPU-supported 2D and 3D effects in real time
-
Primary color correction on a clip basis in real time
-
Xreceive functionality for data exchange with other systems
-
Improved video scrub
-
In addition to analog scrubbing for audio: Adjustable digital audio scrubbing, including during trimming
-
Automatic scene detection based on DV timecode or image content
-
MPEG export (CBR/VBR encoding)
-
DVD, VCD and SVCD authoring integrated into timeline
