According to the manufacturer, the Celsius V830 is suitable for compute-intensive, multiprocessor-optimized applications in CAD, CAE and EDA, visualization, Digital Content Creation, Virtual Reality and science (medicine, pharmaceuticals, genetic engineering, geosciences). For this purpose, according to Fujitsu Siemens’ own statement, the second generation of dual-Opteron workstations provides the highest CPU and graphics performance currently available on the market. In addition to one or two AMD Opteron processors single- or dual-core, the 64-bit workstation houses up to two OpenGL graphics cards from Nvidia’s new flagship FX4500 with Full Speed SLI, allowing even very demanding renderings to be calculated quickly. Nvidia’s nForce Professional Chipset is also installed.
Thanks to a novel housing design and optimized fan control, according to its own figures Fujitsu Siemens reduced the noise level by around 50 percent. Compliance with the EU directive RoHS (Restriction of use of certain Hazardous Substances in electrical and electronic equipment), which comes into force on July 1, 2006, ensures protection of the environment. The housing, power supply and system board of the Celsius V830 already comply with this standard today; the installed components are to follow by the end of 2005.
Prices for the V830, available from September, start at 2,799 euros plus value-added tax.
