The European computer-graphics association “Eurographics” holds its main conference in a different European city each year. This time, around 400 specialists from all over the world are meeting from September 4 to 8, 2006 at the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna. The conference covers all aspects of computer graphics, from scientific visualisation and virtual reality and computer animation to the design of human-computer interactions.

The core of the event is the presentation of around 50 selected scientific results. These include, for example, new shading algorithms, improved image-compositing methods, various geometric modelling processes as well as visualisation and animation improvements. In addition, there are 13 tutorials on subjects such as “Virtual Garment Simulation” or “Realtime Volume Graphics”, state-of-the-art reports (including on “Computational Photography” and “Interactive Volume Rendering with Raytracing”), a computer-games competition, multimedia presentations and numerous other specialist lectures. Mathematician Prof. Herbert Edelsbrunner of Duke University in the USA, who works intensively on new methods in algorithmic geometry, was secured as one of the main speakers. Other speakers are Reinhard Klein of the University of Bonn and Jos Stam of Autodesk.
