Maxon has presented version 10 of its 3D animation solution Cinema 4D, into which, according to manufacturer information, several hundred innovations have flowed. Among other things, the new release is said to be distinguished by improved usability; the graphical elements of the program interface in particular have been optimised for faster recognition. The Object Manager has received features that are helpful especially when working with large scenes, for example display filters, a search and the powerful layer system. Many of these functions can be found in the new timeline, which also includes optimised editing tools (Ripple mode, tangent handling and PowerSlider).
For character animators, Maxon promises with the third version of the optional Mocca module a toolset that leaves no wishes unfulfilled. The now joint-based system with improved IK provides extreme time savings during character setup through auto-weighting. “VAMP” transfers numerous properties of one figure (such as weight maps, selections, UVs, morphs or vertex maps) to another, even if the topology is not identical. Among the other highlights of Mocca 3, the company counts the muscle system as well as constraints, Visual Selector, the stretching of joints and an improved morphing system.
The formerly separate BodyPaint 3D module, which is appearing in a new version at the same time, is now part of every C4D version. Users of Release 10 can use it to carry out extensive UV editing and, above all, 3D painting directly on the objects in real time. Expanded OpenGL capabilities display the scene in the editor in higher quality and with optical effects if desired (for example shadows or environment reflections). The interactive render preview in the editor offers full control over the final look of a rendering at all times.
Cinema 4D Release 10 costs 794.60 euros. Maxon offers the larger XL Bundle and Studio Bundle packages for 1,972 euros and 3,248 euros respectively. Updates are available from 226.20 euros, depending on the existing previous version.
