Links and embedded videos are preserved as part of the historical record.Students can now take part in Autodesk’s “Inventor Student Design Contest”. Until May 1, 2007, the manufacturer is accepting submitted entries with 3D designs, which must, however, have been created with Autodesk Inventor software.
The winners can look forward to prizes from HP, AMD and 3Dconnexion. The jury is composed of Autodesk employees, designers and industry experts and judges the submissions according to the degree to which Autodesk Inventor functions are used, their innovative content and their overall aesthetic impression. The winners will be announced on May 15, 2007.
“Students are the leaders of tomorrow and with this competition Autodesk offers them the opportunity to demonstrate their talent and creativity,” explains Robert Kross, Vice President of the Autodesk Manufacturing Solutions division. “The young designers are offered a unique opportunity to further develop their practical skills and at the same time gain the recognition of both their fellow students and leading experts in the industry.”
Autodesk had only recently made the “Student Engineering and Design Community Site” available. On this web portal, students can download free versions of Autodesk software, such as Autodesk Inventor. Participants in the “Inventor Student Design Contest” must first register with the Autodesk Student Engineering and Design Community.
The prizes awaiting the winners in detail are:

Grand prize: an HP xw4400 workstation with ATI FireGL V7200 graphics card and 20-inch flat-panel display as well as 3Dconnexion SpacePilot

First place: Xbox 360 console, configured with an ATI FireGL graphics card provided by AMD and 3Dconnexion SpaceExplorer

Second place: ATI FireGL 7200 graphics card and 3Dconnexion SpaceTraveler

Third place: ATI FireGL 3300 graphics card from AMD and 3Dconnexion SpaceNavigator – Personal Edition for five third-place winners
