It is the great art of filmmaking to generate emotions with stories, spaces, perspectives, light, music and golden ratios, to strike emotional states, to captivate and touch viewers. At the same time, emotions are the most important capital in the film business. What must a female producer consider if she wants to sell material for the big screen? What makes a comedy funny? How does a cinematographer develop sympathy for the heroine, how does a composer manage to move us to tears, how does the female editor create the feeling of almost unbearable tension in a thriller?
Emotions are subjective and fleeting, difficult to calculate, and they shift in the social and cultural context of every individual, whether he is involved in the production process or a viewer. Examining emotions in cinema is a look into the heart of the film industry.
Apply now for Campus 2008
From July 18 to October 15, 2007, emerging filmmakers from around the world once again have the opportunity to apply for the Berlinale Talent Campus. Alongside producers, directors, actors, cinematographers, screenwriters, film editors, production designers, film composers, sound designers and young film journalists, visual artists are also eligible to participate for the first time in 2008. The Campus is thus taking account of the large number of promising applications received from this area of filmmaking in the previous round.
Applications for the Campus are made online at http://www.berlinale-talentcampus.de. With the start of the application phase, the website presents itself in a new appearance; among other things, in the future there will be the opportunity to be informed about current Campus news through a free newsletter.
The Sarajewo Talent Campus
The first Sarajewo Talent Campus takes place from August 20 to 25, 2007 as part of the Sarajewo Film Festival. After the idea of the Talent Campus had already established itself at the film festivals in Cape Town, New Delhi and Buenos Aires in recent years, the Campus is now pleased about this further partnership. The Sarajewo Talent Campus has a regional focus and is aimed at emerging film talent from 12 countries in southeastern Europe, including Albania, Bosnia, Serbia, Greece and Turkey.
