For the first time since 1999, total television consumption did not increase, media control reported. Children aged three to 13 watched 87 minutes a day, three minutes less than in 2006 and the lowest figure since measurement began in 1992. The 14–29 age group saw the greatest fall, from 140 to 133 minutes, while viewers aged 65 and over remained at 285 minutes.
Smaller channels gained share, led by Vox at 5.7 percent. Phoenix, N24 and n-tv also gained. ARD remained market leader at 13.4 percent, ahead of ZDF at 12.9 percent and RTL at 12.4 percent.
The most-watched 2007 broadcast was Germany’s handball final against Poland, seen by 16.16 million viewers. Henry Maske’s boxing comeback drew 16.07 million, and Wetten, dass..? was the most-watched TV show with 13.53 million viewers.
