With a budget of more than US$75 million, RED CLIFF is one of the largest and most elaborate Asian films ever made. The historical drama tells the story of the famous battle among three Chinese kingdoms on the Yangtze River in 208 AD.

Star director John Woo (“Mission: Impossible II,” “Face/Off”) assembled an Asian star ensemble for the action-packed epic, including Tony Leung Chiu Wai (“Hero,” “In the Mood for Love”), Takeshi Kaneshiro (“House of Flying Daggers”) and Chang Chen (“Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”).

Synopsis: The final days of the Han dynasty are numbered. The shrewd prime minister Cao Cao convinces the wavering Emperor Han that there is only one way to unite China: he must declare war on the kingdom of Xu in the west and East Wu in the south. Thus begins an unprecedented war across China, led by Prime Minister Cao Cao. The last hope for the previously hostile kingdoms of Xu and East Wu is an alliance. After numerous battles on land and water, the war culminates in the Battle of Red Cliff on the Yangtze, where the history of China is rewritten…

The film is scheduled for theatrical release through Constantin Film in the first quarter of 2009.
