The media-production subsidiary of the well-known energy-drink manufacturer is investing in seven complete sets of Sony HDC studio cameras. Each consists of the brand-new Sony HDC-1500R system camera, only recently presented at NAB, together with the HDCU-1000 HD base station, RCP-750 remote-control panel, HDVF-20A viewfinder and further accessories such as tripod plates and microphone holders.

The Air Race created by Red Bull is a new discipline in aviation sport. Since 2003, the world’s best pilots have competed every year in various air races. Red Bull Air Race has also been an official competition series since 2005. Its speed, the action-filled flying manoeuvres of the highly professional pilots and the wide variety of venues around the world continually present new challenges for participants as well as for the technology and personnel of the accompanying live television production.

Red Bull Media House selected the new R version of the HDC series. It features a second-generation 1080/60p processor with a modern DSP LSI system for improved digital signal processing and enhanced focus functions. New CCD technology also enables greater bandwidth and higher transmission quality, particularly at 1080/60p. The R series’ signal-to-noise ratio has also been reduced by 2 dB. As with its predecessors, the cameras’ fibre-optic interfaces can bridge distances of up to three kilometres.
