Sony Digital Cinema and British multiplex operator Apollo Cinemas, whose cinemas set new standards for playback, auditorium architecture, and seating quality, have announced that all auditoriums will be equipped with a total of 83 CineAlta 4K projection systems. One-third of the systems support 3D content. Apollo Cinemas can therefore show Hollywood’s latest 3D blockbusters, taking a pioneering role in the cinema experience of the 21st century. The agreement between Apollo and Sony Professional is the first transaction of its kind in Europe based on Sony’s VPF model.

Rob Arthur, Managing Director of Apollo Cinemas, comments: “With this agreement, Apollo joins the world’s most innovative cinema operators and will in future operate the United Kingdom’s first fully digital cinema chain with CineAlta 4K in every auditorium. Through our collaboration with Sony Digital Cinema, we can offer our audience the ultimate cinema experience. The CineAlta 4K systems provide outstanding picture and sound quality. At the same time, an expanded programme allows us to offer existing and future customers completely new and exciting experiences.”

Oliver Pasch, Head of Digital Cinema Europe at Sony Professional, adds: “This agreement is pioneering. As a harbinger of a new era of digital cinema, it underlines Sony Digital Cinema’s sustained commitment to the industry’s long-term success. Our agreement enables the operator to exploit digital cinema’s enormous potential immediately. Apollo Cinemas thereby strengthens its core business while helping to revolutionise the cinema experience.”
