Conventional HD-video memory cards such as Sony SxS, Panasonic P2, CompactFlash and SDHC are supported. The universal memory-card reader in a robust housing is equipped with an integrated eSATA controller and is intended to replace numerous individual devices, both on location during shooting and in post-production.
Several cards can be read simultaneously with Qio. Two slots are available for each format, with one SDHC and one SxS slot combined. For fast data transfer, Sonnet integrated its proven E4P SATA controller card into Qio. This allows several RAID drives, for example up to two portable Sonnet Fusion F2 units, up to four Sonnet Fusion DQR5 systems or any other hard drives with an eSATA interface, to be connected directly to Qio without going through a computer. Users can copy data freely between memory cards, connected hard drives or a computer at throughput rates of up to 250 MB/s.
For control and data transfer, Qio connects to a Mac or PC through the supplied data cable and a PCIe or ExpressCard adapter. Both adapter variants connect Qio to the computer’s internal 2.5 GB/s PCIe bus. This achieves a significantly higher transfer rate to the computer than FireWire or USB. The SxS and P2 slots also accept conventional ExpressCard/34 and CardBus adapters for WiFi, USB, FireWire or other applications. Notebook users have six times more expansion options available. Desktop users can use adapter cards without opening the housing.
When mains power is unavailable, the XLR 4-pin adapter permits connection of external power sources such as battery packs. Qio is compatible with Mac OS 10.5 and later, as well as Windows Vista and XP.
Qio will be available from October with a carrying case for around 900 euros, with either a PCIe interface card or an ExpressCard/34 adapter. The interface cards are also available separately for around 170 euros each.
