Last night Apple released the long-promised update for Final Cut Pro X – after the package had until now attracted attention mainly through negative headlines, the promised professional functions are now intended to be delivered.
Version 10.0.1 brings the import and export of XML needed for grading and further processing, which is of course also necessary for continuing to use older projects.
According to Apple, XSAN is now intended to enable multiple users to access and edit projects and events over a network. Compressor and Motion have additionally received bug fixes; Motion 5.0.1 now even supports a dual-monitor configurations. Multicam editing and "Broadcast-Quality Video Monitoring" are promised as "Coming in early 2012".
It remains to be seen whether the user goodwill lost as a result can be won back, especially in view of the switcher offers from Adobe and Avid. DP will test the new functions as soon as possible.
