And could thereby pick up an Oscar on February 26.The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominated "Hugo Cabret" in eleven categories, including best visual effects. Stuttgart-based Pixomondo was also substantially involved in these, including through graduates of the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg who are employed at Pixomondo as effects specialists in management positions. With more than 850 shots, they contributed the largest share of the digitally processed images. Many of the effects were created in Frankfurt and Berlin, but also at the London, Los Angeles and Beijing locations.
Heiko Burkardsmaier, Head of Business & Legal Affairs at Pixomondo Stuttgart, names Thilo Ewers and Ando Avila as specialists who were involved in HUGO as VFX supervisors at the Stuttgart studio. Other Filmakademie graduates who work on international projects at Pixomondo include Sven Martin, Michael Wortmann, Benjamin Seide, Björn Mayer and Rainer Gombos.
Beyond the “Visual Effects” category, “Hugo Cabret” is nominated in ten further categories, including “Best Picture”, “Best Adapted Screenplay”, “Best Production Design”, “Best Editing”, “Best Original Score” and “Best Sound”. Martin Scorsese also received a nomination for best director.
