If it ever became reality, however, it would be all the more interesting for the camera sector. According to Sony Alpha Rumors, Sony is working on an SLT camera with a full-frame-like sensor in a square format and is said to be bringing medium-format photography into the digital age with it.
The corresponding camera, called the Sony A1S, is said to exist already as a prototype, while the body is expected to remain compatible with existing lenses from Sony and Minolta. The prototype is said to have a 36x36mm sensor with a resolution of 37 megapixels, as well as a square viewfinder and a 3×3-inch display. The camera’s housing is expected to be the largest Sony has produced to date, even larger than that of the Sony Alpha A900.
Wild camera rotations and contorted arms would be a thing of the past with this model, and a more optimal format for landscape, portrait, and Facebook profile shots would also be provided. So Sony, when does it begin?
