In addition to internal recording of ProRes 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) and ProRes 4K Cine (4096 x 2637), the camera has improved image quality and a completely redesigned image-processing chain. Pixel correction has also been optimized and optional noise reduction added.
Other features include new looks and a simpler workflow with the Alexa SXT than with previous Alexa models, 3D look-up tables and an ASC Color Decision List. According to Arri, the SXT’s images match footage from the other Alexa models, but the video material is intended to provide a basis for radically different looks than before. The on-set preview has also been improved, and the camera makes more efficient dailies and faster final grading possible.
Three Independent HD-SDI Outputs
In addition, the camera has three independent HD-SDI outputs, which make it possible, for example, to show the director a Log C image as a clean image with live grading, while simultaneously outputting a clean Rec 709 image and a Rec 709 image with status information as an overlay on the camera monitor.
Arri has planned the release of the Alexa SXT for mid-2015. Three different versions of the camera will appear: Alexa SXT EV, SXT Plus and SXT Studio. These models will replace the current Alexa XT camera. Anyone who received an XT camera after January 1, 2015 will receive a free upgrade to the SXT. In addition, there will also be an SXR module upgrade for other XT camera owners, which will likewise include the features of the SXT camera.
