Whether 3D animation or still, visualisation or a VFX project, everything from the CGI field is permitted at the animago AWARD. Entries should be no more than three years old. The submission deadline is June 30, 2016; you can submit your entry here.
Trophies will be awarded in a total of 12 categories this year: the familiar “Best Still”, “Best Visual Effects”, “Best Character”, “Best Advertising Production”, “Best Visualisation”, “Best Young Production”, “Best Short Film”, “Best Game Cinematic” and “Jury’s Prize”. New for the 20th anniversary are “Best Motion Design”, the special architecture prize presented by trade magazine Detail, and the anniversary prize, in which people can vote on which entry from 20 years of the animago AWARD was the best. An overview of the categories can be found here.
The young talent prize again carries 3,000 euros in prize money from Digital Production. The awards ceremony will take place as part of animago AWARD & CONFERENCE (October 27/28, 2016), for the first time at Munich’s Gasteig cultural and event centre.
“With the move to Munich and the 20th anniversary of the animago AWARD, we are looking forward to a very special animago edition in 2016. Over two decades, impressive digital works from more than 80 different nations reached us. Among them, for example, was ‘Pixels’ by Patrick Jean, one of the prize winners in 2010, which formed the basis for the Hollywood film of the same name in 2015, as well as later Oscar winners such as ‘Logorama’ by Nicolas Schmerkin or ‘Mr. Hublot’ by Laurent Witz & Alexandre Espigares,” said animago project manager Jana Freund. “We offer our heartfelt thanks for the trust placed in us over such a long period in an industry changing so rapidly.”
The event’s first sponsoring partners for 2016 are Autodesk, Esri, Maxon and NEC.
