“Garden Party”/MOPA

The environments and 3D models of the film “Garden Party”, which is unfortunately not yet online, are extremely detailed and photorealistic. Thanks to a scanning set set up in a garage with the Capturing Reality software(www.capturingreality.com), real assets could be recreated from photographs in 3D space, which extremely accelerated the modelling and increased the realism. ZBrush was then used for the character sculpting and modelling of the frog environment, texturing was done in Mari, and the props and sets were textured with Substance Painter. The team realised the shading, lighting and rendering with Arnold in Maya. For the network rendering, the students were able to use Deadline for the first time in a project. Most of the FX simulations were realised with nParticles and Bifrost in Maya, but if necessary, the students used Houdini. In the end, all 3D elements were composited using Nuke.

In addition to an animago trophy, the MOPA team also received a cheque for 3,000 euros with the prize money endowed by Digital Production for the best newcomer project.
