In keeping with the current issue, Jaakko Saari also offers an elegant way to generate heightmaps. This is a freely available heightmap generator in Substance Designer with which realistic-looking, individually adjustable rocky surfaces can be created quickly.

Usable both for real-time and offline rendering, the generated maps can be adjusted in their shape and scaling at any time with the help of preset exposes, thereby also offering an ideal foundation for more elaborate projects that can be built on top of them.

Anyone who would like to try it themselves or use the generator can download both the project file and the .sbsar file free of charge from Gumroad. The archive can be imported into all DCC packages or game engines that support Allegorithmic Substance Materials.
