StemCell is a 3D converter from TurboSquid that can automatically convert assets uploaded to the 3D stock platform into various additional formats and applications. The converter was first released as a beta in 2017 and requires several conditions to function, including good topology, texture-based materials, fully unwrapped UVs and PBR texture maps.
New Formats and Current Support
The converter now gains new support for Pixar and Apple’s augmented-reality format USDZ. The update also offers support for Autodesk’s Arnold renderer when converting into 3ds Max, Maya and Cinema 4D scenes. With these changes, StemCell is currently compatible with:
- DCC tools: 3ds Max, Maya, Cinema 4D, Unreal Engine 4, Unity
- Rendering engines: V-Ray, Arnold and Mental Ray
- Exchange formats: USDZ, glTF, FBX and OBJ.
Support for Blender and Lumberyard, among others, is still planned for 2020.
StemCell Availability
The converter is free, but available only to TurboSquid users. Anyone who wants to save time when selling assets can use the service on the platform for conversion.
