StageCraft on the volume

Industrial Light & Magic used its StageCraft platform with Unreal Engine for the first season of The Mandalorian. The virtual-production workflow also involved Golem Creations, Fuse, Lux Machina, Profile Studios and ARRI.

LED-stage coverage

More than half of the season was filmed in front of a six-metre-high, 270-degree semicircular LED wall. Assets and environments prepared in preproduction could be displayed and adjusted interactively on the stage, reducing dependence on physical locations while keeping lighting and camera context visible during photography.

Teams should test tracking, colour, moiré, latency and asset playback under the intended camera package before committing a sequence to an LED-stage workflow.
