Maxon has released a new Cineware for Unity plug-in that now lets you integrate Cinema 4D scenes into Unity. Maxon is thus expanding its plug-in range – which so far has also included Cineware for Illustrator and After Effects. (Unreal Engine already added C4D support via Datasmith last year). For the data transferred, the new tool permits the following imports:

  • Geometry including vertex properties, skin and binding rig, as well as Pose Morphs as Blend Shapes.
  • Materials: PBR-based conversion (Albedo/Metal/Roughness, Normal, Bump, Emission and Occlusion Map), as well as animated materials.
  • Light with support for Spot, Point and Directional, Rectangle, Area Disc, as well as properties such as colour, intensity, range, spotlight, light cone and more.
  • Cameras with animated properties and FOV support.

Availability and Licence

The plug-in is compatible with Cinema 4D R21 and Unity 2019.3 and is available here free of charge for macOS and Windows. No Cinema 4D licence is therefore required for import.
