Nucoda and Phoenix 2021.1
Digital Vision World announced version 2021.1 of Nucoda and Phoenix, its software platforms for colour grading and image restoration.
The release marked the start of a wider renewal of the rendering pipeline. Digital Vision World said the underlying software architecture would change substantially over subsequent releases, with the goal of improving performance across the applications.
New features
New capabilities included NewTek NDI support, GPU-accelerated RED debayering, RED Komodo RAW camera support, EXR multipart matte pass-through, automatic background checks for EXR metadata updates, EXR performance improvements and support for projects at up to 120fps. Artist in the spotlight
A companion profile focused on senior colourist Nuala Sheridan of The Farm Group in London, whose work covered British documentary and television productions. One recent highlight was the documentary series Long Way Up, in which Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman travelled more than 13,000 miles through Central and South America on electric Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
Sheridan explained that the production’s spontaneous shooting style left an unusually large part of the storytelling to the grade. She used Nucoda for colour conversion and to harmonise material from sources ranging from aerial drones to onboard motorcycle cameras. The full artist profile was published by Digital Vision World.
