For those who don’t know the tool: Power Renamer is a workflow utility for Blackmagic Design Fusion Studio, handling media paths across Loader, Saver and other file-linked nodes without making artists repair every path manually.

Fridays for Fusion returns to the less glamorous side of compositing: file management. Power Renamer 25 handles batch renaming across Fusion compositions while trying to prevent a tidy-up operation from becoming an unplanned media-offline workshop.

Rename the files, keep the comp

Power Renamer 25 scans a Fusion composition for supported tools and collects their file paths in a sortable interface. Search-and-replace operations generate a live preview before anything on disk is changed, which is preferable to discovering your typo halfway through a render farm submission.

Valid paths appear in green. Duplicate destinations and other potential conflicts receive colour-coded warnings, while detailed explanations are written to the console. Duplicate operations can be skipped so the same file is not renamed or copied repeatedly.

Node paths get a separate pass

Rename and copy modes work with files that actually exist on disk. Invalid or unresolved entries are therefore handled through a separate Node Paths mode, where references inside the compositing graph can be updated without pretending a missing file is merely being difficult. Rows in the results list also provide navigation back to their corresponding nodes. Double-clicking an entry highlights the relevant tool in the composition, reducing the traditional Fusion pastime of hunting through a node graph large enough to require municipal planning permission.

History, undo and fewer career-limiting typos

Version 25 introduces a history of recent search-and-replace operations. Stored operations retain their associated settings, although users should check the selected mode before reapplying one. The developer is still considering whether remembering every mode is consistently helpful. The tool also maintains an internal undo stack separate from Fusion’s own undo system. It can reverse file renames and node-path changes, including multi-step operations. Changes made elsewhere on disk between undo and redo operations may still interfere with recovery. Test the tool on copies of representative project media before introducing it into a production workflow.

Patreon pays the server bill

Power Renamer 25 is described as a Patreon-exclusive release intended to raise money for the We Suck Less community’s growing database-server requirements.
