According to NVIDIA Corporation, the company’s new NVIDIA Quadro FX 2000 and Quadro FX 1000 workstation graphics solutions were selected as graphics options for HP’s IA-32-based workstation products. The two professional solutions were described as the first products to combine true 128-bit floating-point precision with an eight-pipeline, fully programmable graphics engine. The architecture was intended to provide greater realism and sophisticated interactive real-time effects for content creation, visual-data processing and other professional applications.
The NVIDIA Quadro FX series offered substantially higher GPU performance for 3D graphics, with claimed line performance five times higher than the company’s previous generation. NVIDIA attributed this to an efficient graphics pipeline enhanced by its crossbar memory architecture, enabling occlusion culling as well as lossless depth-buffer and colour compression. High numerical precision and full-scene anti-aliasing at resolutions up to 3840 × 2400 QUXGA were intended to deliver very high visual quality.
