Autodessys is using Siggraph as the premiere platform for version 5.5 of its formZ modeler. The new edition contains a large number of new tools, refinements to the interface, file filters, and improved versions for Smooth Modelling, rendering and network rendering.
A brief overview of the features:
- with the “Bend along Curve” tool, a linear object such as a pencil can be bent into a pretzel
- scene palettes and new context menus improve the user interface
- the new DWG/DXF filter now supports files from AutoCAD 2004 and 2006
- the rendering procedures can now access LWA files (LightWork Archive) and their predefined materials
- an improved API enables easier development of formZ scripts
The following features have already been announced for version 6, which is to appear later this year:
- objects and lights can be animated directly in formZ
- the combination of “animation transformation”, parameter animation, morphing and deformation enables the creation of completely novel forms.
How much this version will cost is still open to date.
