SIGGRAPH Paper: Color Harmonization

This technology automatically adjusts disharmonious color combinations in an image

People perceive some color combinations as more aesthetic and harmonious than others. In their paper “Color Harmonization,” Daniel Cohen-Or, Olga Sorkine, Ran Gal, Tommer Leyvand and Ying-Qing Xu present methods for modifying a photo or any other image so that it remains as close as possible to the original template, but disharmonious parts of the image are masked and shifted within the color spectrum.

Commercial applications would include optimizing digital photo collages or presentation graphics, which would thus receive a significantly more professional look without the user having to have a particularly strong sense of color or master complex software.
