NVIDIA introduced the GeForce 8800M GTX and GeForce 8800M GTS graphics processors for notebooks. The new GPUs support DirectX 10 and DirectX 9 and were positioned as a substantial performance increase over their predecessors for games including Crysis, Unreal Tournament 3 and Call of Duty 4.
HD video and power management
The PureVideo HD engine handles decoding for HD DVD, Blu-ray and other high-definition video, reducing CPU load and helping extend notebook battery life. NVIDIA’s PowerMizer technology balances battery life against performance.
System availability
Notebooks using the two GPUs were expected shortly from AIRIS, Chiligreen, Cizmo, Cybersystem, Ergo, Nexoc, Novatech, Plaisio, Rock and XXODD in Europe; Alienware, Eurocom, Gateway and Sager in North America; MouseComputer and Pioneer Computers in Asia-Pacific; and Connoiseur in India.
Alienware said it selected the GeForce 8800M GTX for its 17-inch Area-51 m17x and 15-inch Area-51 m15x notebooks. Crytek described the new mobile GPUs as a platform for experiencing the visual detail of Crysis.
