Multiplex Gelsenkirchen has installed a CineAlta 4K system consisting of a Sony SRX-R220 projector, LMT-200 media block and LSM-100 screen management system, supplied by Film-Ton-Technik Hannsdieter Rüttgers GmbH (FTT). The 3D system includes a dual-lens setup using RealD filters adapted to Sony’s SXRD platform, enabling separate left- and right-eye image streams in one projection chain.
Michael Meyer, Managing Director of Apollo Kino GmbH, said the venue chose the solution to bring current 3D blockbusters to audiences quickly while still making a future-proof investment. He praised Sony’s single-platform workflow for delivering a comfortable 3D experience, high-quality 2K playback compatibility and full 4K performance.
Oliver Pasch of Sony Professional explained that digital cinema is not simply replacing 35mm, but expanding what moviegoing can offer and helping cinema remain competitive with other media in a rapidly evolving environment.
For Egon Gräfen of FTT, the conversion is an important step toward broader digital cinema rollout in Germany, with the Multiplex upgrade becoming a reference implementation for Sony 4K plus RealD 3D deployment.
