After around three weeks, more than 1.01 million visitors have already seen FRIENDSHIP! in the cinema. The warm-hearted comedy starring Matthias Schweighöfer and Friedrich Mücke is thus the first film released in 2010 to cross the one-million mark.
The numerous enthusiastic posts, which can be read on Facebook among other places, show how well the film is being received by its fans:
“At home, somehow everything revolves only around the film now…some scenes are constantly being quoted. (…) A truly brilliant film - one of the best (German) films I have seen recently!!!”
FRIENDSHIP!, the first cinema project from Deutsche Columbia Pictures Filmproduktion, tells of the adventure of two East Germans shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall who travel across America from New York to San Francisco with only 55 dollars in their pockets to search for one of their fathers. Matthias Schweighöfer (“Zweiohrküken”), honoured with the “Goldene Kamera” at the weekend, plays Tom, while newcomer Friedrich Mücke, recently awarded the Bavarian Film Award as “Best Emerging Actor”, is Veit. Both shine in this warm-hearted, stirring comedy about two friends who conquer the land of unlimited possibilities with creativity, heart, humour and “Friendship!”, the only word they know in English.
