The rig has now been presented under the name “Atom” – the name refers to its deliberately low weight; despite all its compactness, the rig can also accommodate large lenses. The rig itself weighs only 13 pounds in the magnesium version, without dispensing with the 5k 3D splitter. A fully equipped system thus weighs a total of 18 kilograms. Lens control is identical to that of the Quasar, Pulsar and Neutron series and offers full interocular convergence control while simultaneously recording IO/C/ and lens data.
There is also the “Atom Pro Kit”, which handles multiplexing, synchronisation and power supply simultaneously, saving further weight. Cables and connectors to and from the cameras are also reduced, meaning that according to manufacturer Technica, a total of 12 possible cable break points are eliminated. The basic aluminium version (which weighs two and a half kilograms more) costs around 64,000 US dollars; further information can be found under at Technica3D.
