The company has already released videos about the new features that Extension 2 is intended to add to 3ds Max.
A new template system makes it possible to create standardised start-up configurations and quickly share them within the team through new import and export functions. In addition, new templates can be created and existing ones edited. Built-in settings are intended to provide better results for rendering, lighting and environments.
The Design Workspace is also renewed by Extension 2, and design data can be imported more effectively and high-quality stills and animations created faster than before.
According to Autodesk, the closer Revit integration and the new importer make it possible to import 3D models into 3ds Max around ten times faster than before, with clean geometry. SketchUp 2014 files can now also be imported into 3ds Max.
The Camera Sequencer feature makes it possible to cut back and forth between different cameras and edit animated clips non-destructively. The Dual Quaternion feature provides better smooth skinning, specifically preventing effects such as "Bow Tie" or "Candy Wrapper".
