What Is New in Flame 2018.3?

Flame is powerful 3D, VFX and finishing software from Autodesk. With the latest version, Flame 2018.3, the developers promise Flame users more flexibility and new workflows. But what does that mean in concrete terms? Which features are new?

  • Action Selective: This allows you to transfer FX colour directly to an image surface or the entire Action scene.
  • Motion Warp Tracking: With the new 32-bit vector-based tracking method, you can organically distort objects in shape and angle.
  • 360° VR viewing mode: You can view LatLong images in 360° VR mode during compositing.
  • Improved HDR and WCG signal monitoring
  • Shotgun Software Loader: This allows you to load individual projects and create individual batches via the Flame Python API. You can also use it to select individual shots from a Shotgun project and display them filtered.
  • Improvements to Action, Batch, Timeline and Media Hubs

The update applies to the entire Flame family, i.e. Flame, Flare, Flame Assist and Lustre. You can find more information about Flame on the Autodesk website.

Free Flame Articles

As promised at the start, the icing on the cake now comes in the form of three free articles about the all-round software. This year, we wrote a Flame training series for our readers. In the first article, we inform you how to install the free training version for the Linux operating system. We then show you the first possible applications and, finally, in the third article, we discuss editing effects.
