Almost half a year has passed since the last release of the CPU renderer. As usual, the new Corona Renderer 5 appears first for 3ds Max.
Corona 5 with Better Performance
According to the developers, this time the focus was on reducing both RAM usage and render times, without even having to change anything in the Corona scene. Improvements to mesh-normal calculation, geometry processing, an Embree Library update and the following changes are intended to deliver this:
- 2.5D Displacement: New default method for calculating displacement with an average three-to-fourfold speed increase in geometry calculation and 50% lower render time.
- Caustics optimisation: In the example of the scene above, with a 16% reduction in memory requirements and 31% lower render time compared with the caustics in Corona 4.
- Corona Hair requires around 50% of the previous memory
- Corona Material Library update: 17 new Basic Hair and 10 new Skin materials
