Kaydara announced MotionBuilder 5 as a complete 3D character-animation system for release in August 2003.
Story timeline and real-time rendering
A new Story timeline edited 3D animation tracks alongside audio and video. Character-animation tools were revised, while the renderer used OpenGL and NVIDIA hardware for photorealistic real-time output.
Workflow and clip-art libraries were expanded. Supported file formats included OBJ, DXF, 3DS, MP3 and AAC. FBX interoperability added Wings3D and RealViz to a list that already included products from 2D3, Alias Wavefront, Autodesk or Discreet, Softimage, NewTek, DI-O-Matic, Digimask, ElectricImage, InSpeck and Maxon.
Professional edition and requirements
The Professional edition supported motion-capture editing and asset-management systems and included an SDK. MotionBuilder 5 required Windows 2000, Windows XP or Mac OS X 10.2 and later.
The standard edition cost $995 and the Professional package $3,495. Current operating-system, FBX and hardware compatibility should be tested before production use.
