Today Autodesk presented the first update for its recently acquired character animation software MotionBuilder. In MotionBuilder 7.5, the developers placed particular emphasis on handling tasks in the area of motion capturing. Alongside this, the new real-time tools for workflow optimization are intended to help artists implement their ideas for complicated 3D characters effortlessly within their development pipeline.

Further important new features added in MotionBuilder 7.5 include new keyframe-centered workflows for streamlining the keyframe animation process. They include the ability to edit animations within the timeline and offer a rebuilt undo system as well as expanded options for posing and mirroring characters.

Autodesk also promises improved interoperability with 3ds Max and Maya, among others. More character types that are easier to set up (such as birds and dinosaurs) are included in the software package, while inverse kinematics at the knees and elbows is now also available for non-traditional characters.

The transfer of mirrored poses from one character to another is now intended to proceed more easily.

Finally, Autodesk has also refined the setup of complex choreographies with multiple characters. A new operating and animation concept enables the rapid setup of complex interactions among multiple characters where dependencies exist between the body rigs. This applies especially to depictions of fights, wrestling or handling braces, as well as other situations in which multiple character have to be brought into harmony.
