The developers proudly presented a stable version of LuxRender with long-awaited features. Normal maps are now said to be supported and can be applied to all materials. A Multimix texture can be used to layer several normal maps or bump maps on top of one another. The material palette has also been expanded and additionally includes materials for metal, car paint, coatings and a material that allows different materials to be stacked.
Multi-Step Motion Blur gives users precise control over the degree of blur as well as the curvature of trails for object and camera transformation blur. The user interface and network components have also been improved.
According to the developers, LuxRender runs on Windows operating systems from 2000 up to 7 and requires fast processors. Anyone who wants to try LuxRender v1.0 can download the installer free of charge as before for personal and commercial use via the download section of LuxRender.net. Programs that can use the renderer include 3D Studio Max, XSI, Poser, C4D, DAZ Studio, SketchUp and Blender.
