Cinema 4D R21.1 and New Redshift Features

Maxon releases the first service pack for Cinema 4D Release 21, now with more Redshift support!

Since the acquisition of the GPU renderer Redshift, there have been no major changes between Maxon and Redshift apart from some changes to the licensing system. The new Cinema 4D R21.1 Service Pack update, combined with the Redshift 3.0.12 release (experimental), now brings better integration between the two tools.

C4D Material Editor and Viewport

Redshift materials can now be created and edited with the Cinema 4D Node Editor. Even though the feature was added in R20, you need the new R21.115 update for it. All native Redshift shader nodes are also available in the Node Editor. In addition, Redshift IPR can now be selected through the Cinema 4D viewport IPR options and used in any panel for preview rendering.

Maxon Noise Nodes

As announced in advance, the update also offers native support for all 32 C4D Noise Nodes. These nodes are now also available for all other Redshift DCCs. According to the developer, C4D users are no longer restricted to 2D textures and can also map the nodes to object or world coordinates. Because the implementation consists of GPU-optimised versions of the original CPU Noide shader nodes, the results are not identical down to the pixel.

Redshift for Houdini 18 and Solaris

Alongside integration of the 32 noise shader types, Redshift also provides initial support for the new USD-based look-dev, layout and lighting environment “Solaris” in Houdini. You can download the Houdini 18 preview plug-in separately here.
