Awards Presented at up-and-coming 2007

On Sunday morning, the 'German Young Film Award 2007', the 'BDK Student Film Award' (Professional Association for Art Education), the 'Flying Camera' and the 'International Young Film Makers Award' were presented in Hanover. The 9th Hanover International Film Festival comes to an end with the award ceremony.

30 Days of Night – Sensational new number 1 in USA!

not only Germany experienced a tremendous cold snap this weekend. The icy vampire thriller 30 Days of Night took the top spot in the US cinema charts as the best new release. Despite major competition on the opening weekend, 30 Days of Night impressed with box-office takings of 16 million dollars. Numerous horror fans found their way to the cinema and let themselves be swept away by Josh Hartnett as a bloodthirsty vampire hunter.

Filming begins on “The Informers”

The first clapperboard fell on October 17 for the Marco Weber production THE INFORMERS, the film adaptation of the bestseller of the same name by Bret Easton Ellis (“American Psycho”). It is directed by Gregor Jordan (“Buffalo Soldier”, “Ned Kelly”). THE INFORMERS is the first film adaptation of a book by Bret Easton Elllis for which he wrote the screenplay himself and which he also co-produced.

Filming of THE READER has begun in Berlin

Production of THE READER, starring Nicole Kidman, Ralph Fiennes and David Kross, has begun in Berlin. Stephen Daldry is directing the dramatic love story based on the novel of the same name by Bernhard Schlink and the screenplay by David Hare. Senator has acquired the German exploitation rights.

Another Emmy nomination for a production by the Bavaria Film Group: “Everyone Loves Jimmy”, the sitcom produced by Bavaria Film on behalf of RTL (producer 1st season: Stephan Bechtle/producer 2nd season: Peter Fröhlich), must now hold its own in the “Comedy” category against competition from Brazil (“The Amateurs”/TV Globo), England (“Little Britain Abroad”/BBC Comedy/Little Britain Productions), Japan (“NEO – Office Chuckles”/NHK) and South Africa (“Sorted”/TOM Pictures).

Alongside Oscar winners Billy Bob Thornton and Kim Basinger as well as Brandon Routh, Ashley Olsen, Jon Foster, Lou Taylor Pucci and Austin Nichols, they will be seen in further leading roles in the dramatic thriller based on the bestseller of the same name by Bret Easton Ellis (“American Psycho”). Gregor Jordan directs. Filming for the Marco Weber production takes place from October 15 in Los Angeles, Buenos Aires and Uruguay.

WAM Film Night

On November 4, 2006, the Werbe- & Medien-Akademie Marquardt will present the "small film prize" for the 6th time as part of WAM Film Night to the best up-and-coming filmmakers. The prize is intended to help draw the industry's attention to the great creative potential of young filmmakers. WAM Film Night was founded in 2001 by Frank Erhardt – Academy Director of Werbe- & Medien-Akademie Marquardt – and a team of committed students and has successfully established itself since then. In addition to submissions from universities throughout Germany, WAM Film Night recorded international entries for the first time in 2005. Until September 29, up-and-coming filmmakers can apply to participate with scenic-fictional productions with a maximum length of 20 minutes. The producer and director of the film are entitled to submit.
